Supporting Education in Honor of Service
In 2009, the PPA began offering scholarships to college-bound seniors and college students. The association now awards annually two $2,500 scholarships. These two scholarships are set aside for members in memory of two Plano police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The scholarships are named for Officer Dayle Weston Hardy (EOW July 7, 2007) and Officer Green W. Rye (EOW February 28, 1920). They are available for application in late spring through the Plano Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
In 2025, the family of Retired Plano Police Officer and Public Information Officer David Tilley established an additional $2,500 scholarship in his memory. This scholarship was made possible through the generosity of the Tilley family and a donation from H-E-B and is awarded alongside the existing PPA scholarships.
Below are additional scholarship opportunities available through our partner organizations, including the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA), the Texas Fraternal Order of Police, and the First Responders Children’s Foundation. We encourage our members and their families to explore these programs for additional support.
Scholarship Award Winners
Since 2021, PPA scholarships are overseen and awarded by the Plano Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
